Paints for wooden frames: the sustainable innovations of 2025

When the finish is part of the project, not just protection

When designing a wooden window or door, the choice of paint is also crucial. Not only because it protects the material over time, but because it contributes in a concrete way to defining the identity of the environment. The color, the degree of transparency, the way in which the light slides on the surface... everything starts from the finish.
This is why ISAM has chosen to adopt sustainable paint cycles, developed with its technical partner Adler: one of the first companies in Europe to guarantee bio-based, high-performance products, certified for durability and safety.

1. Plant-based and zero VOC formulations
The new paints use resins and oils of plant origin: flax, soy, sunflower. Unlike traditional resins, derived from petrochemicals, these are renewed every season.
The scientific parameter that measures this renewability is Carbon 14 (C14): the more it is present, the more alive and organic the material is. The Adler Green paints used by ISAM have an organic carbon percentage greater than 70%.

In simple terms: they are living paints, which derive from what grows.

Furthermore:

they are water-based, therefore free of toxic solvents;
they do not emit VOCs (volatile organic compounds);
they are odorless and safe even in closed environments.

For the end customer, this means healthier air in indoor environments and respect for the well-being of those who live there.

2. Patented natural UV filters
Sunlight is one of the main causes of deterioration for wood: it discolors, bleaches, degrades the fibers. Adler Green paints contain natural UV filters, derived from antioxidant plant extracts, which act as an "invisible shield".

They protect the wood from yellowing.
They reduce the formation of micro-cracks.
They slow down aesthetic and structural aging.

A window frame exposed to the sun, for example in a south-facing veranda, will maintain its original color and the compactness of the protective film for longer, even without frequent maintenance.

3. Bio industrial cycles: efficiency and performance
These paints are perfectly compatible with the industrial application systems adopted by ISAM:

rapid drying;
uniformity of application;
possibility of controlled stratification (base + intermediate + finish).

The result is a cycle that guarantees:

surface hardness, useful against scratches and accidental impacts;
chemical-physical resistance, even in the presence of humidity, salt or temperature variations;
chromatic stability over time, even with dark colors.

For the designer, this means being able to count on an ecological product, but also technically reliable, with a wide choice of colors and textures.

4. Color trends: natural tones, velvety effects
In 2025, the palette for wooden window frames is inspired by terrestrial and plant landscapes:
sand beige, roasted coffee, bark, dusty olive, moss green.

They are colors:

matt or satin, often with a velvety effect to the touch;
warm and sophisticated, which absorb and modulate light;
suitable for both contemporary residences and historical or rustic contexts.

Thanks to transparent formulations, it is also possible to leave the wood grain visible, making each window a unique, living element, in dialogue with the surrounding environment.

“The material must be understood, not just used. Wood also wants to be listened to.”
— Peter Zumthor

Choosing a paint, today, does not only mean protecting.
It means living an idea of a conscious, ethical and long-lasting project.
